Democrats have been spending a lot of money to keep the seat vacated by George Latimer when he became Westchester County Executive in January.
Latimer has appeared in TV ads for Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer of Yonkers, who is seeking to succeed him. Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat from New Castle, campaigned for Mayer in Mamaroneck on Sunday.
Her challenger is Julie Killian, a Republican and former deputy mayor in Rye.
Westchester Democrats outnumber Republicans by a two-to-one margin. But redistricting several years ago favored Republicans in Latimer's district.
“The Westchester seat is the one where the most money and attention are being spent,” Geoff Berman, executive director of the state Democratic Party told The New York Times in this article. “We’ve been doing all sorts of phone banks and organizing canvassing trips from around the state to help Shelley.”
Another television ad paid for by Democrats blasts Killian for her pro-gun support.
